Keeping Prosperity in Perspective
by Michael Serna on Feb.03, 2010, under Devotion
If your wealth increases, don’t make it the center of your joy. Psalm 62:10 NLT
In the demanding world in which we live, financial prosperity can be a good thing, but spiritual prosperity is profoundly more important. Yet, our society leads us to believe otherwise. The world glorifies material possessions, personal fame, and physical beauty above all else; these things, of course, are totally unimportant to God. God sees the human heart, and that’s what is important to Him.
As you establish your priorities for the coming day, remember this: The world will do everything it can to convince you that “things” are important. The world will temp you to value fortune above faith and possessions above peace. God, on the other hand, will try to convince you that your relationship with Him is all-important. Trust God.
Prosperity, Promises, and Peace

The Lord’s blessing brings wealth, and no sorrow comes with it. Proverbs 10:22 NCV
We live in an era of prosperity, a time when many of us have been richly blessed with an assortment of material possessions that our forebears could have scarcely imagined. As believers living in these prosperous times, we must be cautious: we must keep prosperity in perspective.
The world stresses the importance of material possessions; God does not. The world differs the promise of happiness through wealth and public acclaim; God offers the promise of peace through His son. When in doubt, we must distrust the world and trust God. The world often makes promises that it cannot keep, but when God makes a promise, He keeps it, not just for a day or a year or a lifetime, for all eternity.
